Steve Horn began documenting family road trips when he was six, using a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye camera. At age 19 he studied with the renowned American photographer Paul Caponigro. Steve became a professional photographer in the mid-1980s, specializing in documentary work. His photographs are in the collections of Amherst College, Yale University, the Seattle Arts Commission, and the Natural History Museum of Travnik, Bosnia. Steve's art images have been displayed in exhibits and galleries in the U.S. and Japan.
His first book, Pictures Without Borders: Bosnia Revisited, was released in November, 2005. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer called it "a remarkable testament to the power of photography to reach across time and across national boundaries." More information about this project is at pictureswithoutborders.com.
Steve has traveled nationally for clients who seek his sensitive and evocative style of photography. In addition to documentary projects and custom wedding work, he specializes in portraiture and land conservation photography.
In the peak summer months, Steve photographs primarily on Lopez Island, Orcas Island, and San Juan Island in Northwest Washington State.
